Arizona is known for growing cotton plants exceedingly well – and it was this humble plant that actually paved the way for the creation of the luxurious Wigwam Arizona as we know it. The Wigwam was originally established as a guest ranch that could accommodate up to 24 guests at a time. This was in the year 1929, after The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company purchased acres of land for cotton farming (cotton enhanced the life of Goodyear tires, and thus, cotton became an important variable in the tire creation process).
A year later, the first nine-hole golf course was developed on The Wigwam premises. The course was soon expanded, and thus, The Wigwam course became the first pro course in the area. In just one year of existence, the accommodation capacity of the main Wigwam Arizona building was expanded for up to 66 guests at a time, from the original 24.
Fastforward to the 1990s, The Wigwam was acquired by Kabuto Arizona Properties and vastly improved. A 10,800 square foot ballroom was developed, as well as a stunning 90 courtyard villas. Another swimming pool was added to the resort.
In 2011, The Wigwam was relaunched and this time, the resort and hotel featured the best features and amenities of both the classic guest ranch and the modern resort it wanted to be. There was now a redesigned swimming pool, an impressive outdoor plaza, a restaurant (The Litchfield) and the signature community events that are planned carefully each year to create the best guest experience.
2018 marks the centennial of Tthe Wigwam, as this year commemorates the very first building constructed on The Wigwam property. This old building, the Organization House, marked the beginning of an amazing era of continuous enhancements to a unique Arizona experience offered to guests coming in to experience the warmth and comfort of the state of Arizona all year round.
