4th of JULY TRADITION CONTINUES AT WIGWAM RESORT WITH AWARD-WINNING FIREWORKS SPECTACTULAR & GREAT AMERICAN PICNIC

Historic Resort To Mark Independence Day with All-American Picnic, Fireworks Show and Rates from $119

Phoenix, Ariz. (June 14, 2010) – Celebrating America’s birthday a day early, on July 3 the legendary Wigwam Golf Resort & Spa in Phoenix will put on the state’s largest resort firework display and public celebration including The Great American Picnic, which has become a West Valley tradition and local resident favorite.

Kicking off the holiday weekend, room rates are available from $119 for overnight stays to $399 for a three-night stay for four, daily Hickman’s Family Farm breakfast buffet at The Grill for four and two adult and two children’s tickets to the July 3 Great American Picnic. For a unique private party experience, a limited number of Private Party Suites are available that include air conditioning and a private oversized patio with panoramic views of the fireworks show for up to eight guests to enjoy, with overnight accommodations for four. The VIP Fireworks Spectacular Party Suite Package includes eight Great American Picnic tickets, iced buckets of 12 domestic beers and waters, and a grand pitcher of top shelf margaritas for just $500.

All hotel guests will enjoy reserved front-row seating for the fireworks show and a full weekend of games, activities and entertainment. Guests will enjoy complimentary water aerobics, poolside games like swim-up Blackjack, evening Native American campfires and destination experiences, Margaritas & Manicures by the pool, and golf and spa specials. Just for the kids, the fun ranges from Sunset Movies at the pool featuring The Little Rascals and National Treasure, a Mad Science Camp that teaches kids about rockets and fireworks and a Teen Gaming Room open until 10 p.m. nightly to American Flag T-shirt making, Water Balloon Volleyball and Flag Football. Monkey Doos will also be on-site July 3 offering little ladies the chance to get glamed-up with make-up, hair and dress-up in glitzy outfits for just $25, culminating with a fashion show at 5 p.m. that evening during the Great American Picnic.

Open to the public, the following activities will be taking place over the holiday weekend at the Wigwam:

  • Freedom Festival- Friday, July 2, 12-6 p.m. and Saturday, July 3, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Open to the public, this open-air festival on the Wigwam’s spacious front lawn will feature a Vintage Car Show with a stunning line-up of classic cars, entertainment, food and family fun from face-painting and hula hoop contests to plinko and more. Friday and Saturday, Magic Bird Festivals will be set-up in the Arizona Room offering a unique boutique shopping experience with more than 20 local artisans and crafts. This is a free event and non-hotel guests are welcome.

  • The KNIX Great American Picnic, featuring The Stealing Angels- Saturday, July 3, 5 p.m.

The public is invited to attend the Wigwam’s annual Great American Picnic, sponsored by KNIX 102.5 FM. The family-style evening of fun, good food and a patriotic celebration will be held on the lush green grass of the Wigwam’s fairways, and will feature a family-style cookout of BBQ entrées and sides and salads made fresh from locally-grown produce, a live DJ spinning America’s top hits from all generations, animal encounters from Wildlife World Zoo, letter-writing to the troops and putting challenges. Neighboring Luke Air Force Base will also have an expansive collection of the latest military equipment and technology from remote control robots to Humvees on display. A headlining concert brought to you by KNIX 102.5 FM featuring The Stealing Angels will take the stage for picnic-goers leading up to the fireworks spectacular. The Stealing Angels is a popular up-and-coming country music band comprised of Caroline Cutbirth, Jennifer Wayne, and Tayla Lynn, all artists who have descended from American icons, including country great Loretta Lynn, film legend John Wayne and American folk hero Daniel Boone. Tickets for the Great American Picnic are $15 for adults and $9 for children and include reserved front-row seating for the live performances and fireworks spectacular.

  • The VIP Lounge at The Grill- Saturday, July 3, 7 p.m.

The public is also invited to enjoy an adults-only VIP experience before the fireworks show at The Grill at The Wigwam. Limited to the first 150 guests for a $50 entry fee, the VIP Lounge at The Grill will offer a private air-conditioned outdoor viewing patio for the fireworks show, live music, a tapas-style dinner buffet, two drinks and desserts.

  • The Wigwam’s Fireworks Spectacular- Saturday, July 3, 8:46 p.m.

Also open to the public, the Wigwam’s fireworks display is Arizona’s largest resort fireworks celebration. Spectators will enjoy a colorful show-stopping presentation over the Wigwam’s 54 holes of championship golf. Viewers from across the West Valley can tune into KNIX 102.5 FM to enjoy a line-up of music accompanying the fireworks display. The fireworks celebration is free and open to the public on a first-come basis. Reserved front-row seating is available only to hotel guests and guests of the Great American Picnic. Viewing areas are set-up on the Village Green area on the Wigwam golf course.
